A windy but enjoyable 2013 Open Day

January 7, 2014

2013 Open Day - Front

Open Day on Sunday October 20th 2013 turned out to be rather a battle against the strong wind, but all members present really enjoyed the afternoon, seeing the garden looking so productive and lush and so spick and span, and showing it off to the visitors, who included Federal and State politicians.
The stalls all had a great variety of beautiful items for sale. The fresh veg and flowers from the garden are always in demand and sell very quickly, and the home made produce, very professional looking, delicious sweet and savoury preserves, cakes, biscuits etc, also disappeared, along with the vegetable seedlings, herbs and other plants. Of course, the bbq is popular and the home made lemonade was a winner on such a hot, drying day.

We had a very successful Open Day this year, which would not have been possible without the support from the below local businesses.

Please support them.

Very successful Rushall Garden Open Day 2012!

October 17, 2012

Congratulations to everyone involved in last Saturday’s very successful Rushall Garden Open Day.

Luckily most of the dark clouds just rolled over northwards, and it was perfectly not too hot, not too windy and mainly not wet, just about right for once, and the garden looked spectacular. Throughout the afternoon there was a very good crowd present, including politicians and councilors,  all enjoying the stalls of fresh, preserved, baked and potted produce, as well as bbq’d delights, everything looking too appetising for words.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone involved with this, to those who helped to set up, serve, harvest, bake and bbq, sell raffle tickets, and with the necessary evil, clearing up (in the showers); never a dull moment. It all went VERY smoothly, a grand community effort!!  Also thanks to the providers of shelter, Martin (who was rewarded with his hamper win!), Anne and John.

A very special thank you to Tony Maiolo for organising most of the raffle prizes, and to the local business people who supplied them – see the website next week for the list, and please support them. The drawing of the raffle was especially exciting, as most of the winners were present.

Thanks to John and David for organising the food and drinks, Bakers Delight for bread, and Scotsburn Nursery for seedlings.

Perhaps the greatest pleasure of the day was sharing our Garden with the very appreciative visitors. Some people spent a long time looking around, exploring every corner, enjoying the variety of plants and the productivity (have you ever seen such huge cabbage leaves??) and getting ideas for their gardens.

Their enthusiasm was real, and reinforced yet again how VERY VERY lucky we are to have a plot, and be part of such a splendid community project!
