Fantastic turnout to last Sunday’s winter working bee

June 21, 2011

Many thanks to the large band of willing gardeners and children who knuckled down and worked wonders in the Community Garden over a couple of hours on Sunday morning.

The before/after difference is very noticeable, with the huge mulch and gravel piles being redistributed, and the weeds on paths and in the community beds and the tall stems of the tree dahlias removed. The paths are beautifully mulched, holes filled and gates re aligned, the tank near the WC is now back to vertical, the compost expertly turned and “lasagned” and a new bay begun, berries and some perennials and herbs pruned, parsley and strawberry plants rescued and potted up for the Open Day.

The plotless people worked hard weeding and planting outside along the railway fence. All in all a terrific effort, and then we were rewarded with a welcome drink and barbecue cooked by David. It was lovely to have all the children helping and enjoying themselves. THANKS TO ALL!!

We hope that backs and muscles were OK afterwards, and that you enjoyed getting together with fellow gardeners under the surprisingly warm winter sun to help to improve our garden.
