We had a very successful Open Day this year, which would not have been possible without the support from the below local businesses.

Please support them.

Very successful Rushall Garden Open Day 2012!

October 17, 2012

Congratulations to everyone involved in last Saturday’s very successful Rushall Garden Open Day.

Luckily most of the dark clouds just rolled over northwards, and it was perfectly not too hot, not too windy and mainly not wet, just about right for once, and the garden looked spectacular. Throughout the afternoon there was a very good crowd present, including politicians and councilors,  all enjoying the stalls of fresh, preserved, baked and potted produce, as well as bbq’d delights, everything looking too appetising for words.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone involved with this, to those who helped to set up, serve, harvest, bake and bbq, sell raffle tickets, and with the necessary evil, clearing up (in the showers); never a dull moment. It all went VERY smoothly, a grand community effort!!  Also thanks to the providers of shelter, Martin (who was rewarded with his hamper win!), Anne and John.

A very special thank you to Tony Maiolo for organising most of the raffle prizes, and to the local business people who supplied them – see the website next week for the list, and please support them. The drawing of the raffle was especially exciting, as most of the winners were present.

Thanks to John and David for organising the food and drinks, Bakers Delight for bread, and Scotsburn Nursery for seedlings.

Perhaps the greatest pleasure of the day was sharing our Garden with the very appreciative visitors. Some people spent a long time looking around, exploring every corner, enjoying the variety of plants and the productivity (have you ever seen such huge cabbage leaves??) and getting ideas for their gardens.

Their enthusiasm was real, and reinforced yet again how VERY VERY lucky we are to have a plot, and be part of such a splendid community project!

Rushall Garden Open Day this Saturday 13th October 1pm-4pm

October 9, 2012

The 2012 Open Day is on this Saturday!

It is a great opportunity to share gardening tips, learn about community gardening and the importance and joy that can be gained from growing and sharing fresh produce from the garden.

Have you bought too many seeds or have excess gardening tools?

October 8, 2012

If you have excess seeds or small gardening tools then consider donating them to the Putting Down Roots program, a Red Cross gardening and food security project for vulnerable migrants, in collaboration with CERES and Cultivating Community.

See below flyer for further information. Cheers
