Garden Open Day 2011

Melbourne really has lived up to its 4 seasons weather record this weekend, and unfortunately we drew the short straw when setting up for our Open Day yesterday, when the skies opened.
It was a very wet business preparing the stalls, garden, bbq etc for the afternoon, but extra tarps and large umbrellas were brought from homes so all was protected. Luckily the afternoon was dry and very pleasant.

Of course, the garden lapped up the rain and looked splendid.
The vegetable, herb and floral produce for sale was a joy to behold, freshly picked, a wonderful variety, colourful, absolutely bursting with flavour, vitamins and goodness. You would never eat supermarket veg again.
There was also a bountiful table of home baked cakes, biscuits etc and jams and other preserves, and many healthy plants for sale.

THANK YOU everyone who baked and preserved, propagated, made yummy punch, and contributed to these stalls, and arranged raffle prizes.
And A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to the ever obliging helpers on the day – those who set up and cleaned up, provided tarps etc, looked after the stalls, picked produce, helped with the BBQ and drinks, sold raffle tickets, painted faces, showed visitors the Garden, and to all those who were happy to spontaneously help with whatever needed doing at the time. It would not have been such a successful day without you all!!
And AN EXTRA SPECIAL THANK YOU to our acting Secretary and Treasurer John, who very efficiently behind the scenes made it all happen, coordinating, coping with the problems, making countless phone calls, and writing emails, signs and lists, buying food and supplies, providing change, and contacting all the raffle prize winners, an organiser extraordinaire.
